Looking for a way for your family to enjoy college basketball at a better-than-budget price?

Our neighbor, Jackson State University, has a deal for you!  Monday night, January 4, 2010, will be JPS night at the JSU game.  The women's basketball game starts at 5:30 p.m. and the men's game starts at 8:00 p.m. JSU will be taking on Alabama A & M.

On this special night, all JPS students, parents and staff can get in the game for free.  JPS staff members only need to show their JPS ID for admission and free parking.

Big News: the game will be televised on ESPNU.  Come dressed as a great fan, and get yourself on TV!

Another bonus? JSU is having a contest, and the top three signs that fans bring will get a prize from the JSU Athletics Department.  Set your DVR to record yourself on national TV!

Jasmine's Little Lesson

Last night as I was getting my children ready for bed, Jasmine ran to me with her top lip bleeding. I asked her what was wrong. She just had this really goofy look on her face. Kwandis asked her too, and she came up with a story (aka lie) that she had fallen and busted her lip. He asked her if she had used my razor. She stuck closely with her story...she fell in my bathroom and cut her lip. When he walked off, I asked her again. She told the truth. With her precious puppy dog eyes, she confessed her wrongdoing. I felt sorry for my little pumpkin. I dared not scold her, but I sternly explained to her what she did wrong (lying) and what she should have done (tell the truth).

After putting everyone to bed, my mind wondered on exactly why she did it. I couldn't help to wonder if, at the age of three, she was desperately trying to achieve a certain look about herself, or if she was just curiously about the effects of a pretty pink razor. However, I did not come up with a concrete answer. What I did decide was that it was now time to truly child-proof my bathroom.

Sermon Notes

Sermon Notes
Matthew 11:28-30 and I Peter 5:7

Background: encouragement for enduring our personal pilgrimage

There is no sense in worrying about things you can and cannot have any
control

Reference to Chuck Swindle

Worry pulls a cloud over your sunshine.

Worrying is essentially flutters up today time so that today
opportunity are clouded by yesterdays problems.

to overcome life burdens and circumstances we must surrender worries
submit worries and strengthen your walk and survey works of God

In life in circumstances the problem that is common (what is the
problems that come)

There is always something to be concerned about. Examples: finances,
family, crisis in my faith, my future, or health

Usually those who have heavy weights are often doing things alone
without God, burden by life. Ur problems are common for saints and
sinners. Saints deal with problems just like sinners. Remember you
don't have trouble until u love Jesus.

Problems are common to human existence. We are apart of a sin infested
world. We are often time attacked by the adversary. If u haven't had
any problems do leave here bragging. Saints have to endure pain
burdens and crisis of life. Everybody has an issue even if your issue
is not like his. In the scripture you will find the prescription to
conquer all your problems. Cast all your cares on him. Just come and
bring yourself to Christ. Come to Christ and receive salvation.
Prescription for life burdens: Rely on Christ. It is very hard. It is
very hard to turn things over to Christ. You have to learn to trust
God. It takes a lot of effort to trust God becuase we don't spend
enough time with him. Learn to trust Jesus by spending time with him.
Developing this relationship with Christ, will help you to overcome
life burdens. Not my will but thine will be done because you trust
Christ because you love him. God places us in a situation for us to
learn from it. We have to learn about Christ and our relationship and
about ourselves. Coming to Christ you don't have to manufacture your
own prescription. God's promise: God will give you rest. The rest is
both positive and negative. I will give you rest when u come to me I
will build a hedge around your heart and mind. I will prevent things
from coming in that will disturb your rest. He will give you peace
which surpasses all our understanding. He will build a fort to protect
things from penetrating. Only Jesus can guard your heart and mind I.
Such a way to eliminate problems to penetrate. Ask God to guard your
heart and mind. Develop peace with God. Learn how to recognize Satan.
His job is to disturb your peace. You must recognize Satan's
objectives. When it looks like nothing good will happen, God makes a
way.

Weather and Play

I love wathing my children play outside. They are so creative with the things they find in the garage to occupy their time. The weather is so perfect right now. As they are playing, the zeal of parenthood overwhelms me. They are so precious and bring so much life to my world. I love that their motives for fun and life are so opaque, unlike the adults I often come in contact with. Beyond the arguing and the whining, my children embrace any instance of anomaly. Their deviation from the conventional objects of playtime shows that their lucid understanding is phenomenal.

Feeling like urgh!!!

Since my car hasn't been working, we are using only one vehicle. So, I
haven't had a chance to go to the gym for an entire week. With so much
going on, I haven't noticed that I have not been to the gym until this
morning. We celebrated Jacob's second birthday at CiCi's pizza.
Buffets are so sinful. Even though I did not overeat this time, I woke
up with awful cramping. I cannot wait for my car to get fixed so that
I can burn all the calories and fat I had this entire week. Perhaps,
it is really a good thing that my body now recognizes when I haven't
eaten right.

Bed at Batte Furniture

I am saddened about my awful experience at Batte Furniture. I really
believe I was treated rudely because I was black. However, I did like
this bed. It was gorgeous. Yet, the retail price was $6,000. It wasn't
that gorgeous though. What do you think?

Motivational Quotes from iPhone

Motivational Quotes from iPhone

Return to Work

Open House is today. I will meet the sixth graders and their parents today. Perhaps, they are as anxious to meet us as we are anxious to know them. I remember my sixth grade year. We were the oldest children in the building at Water Valley Elementary School (now called Davison Elementary). I felt almost grown as the younger students looked up to us. The role of sixth grade in our school is different. The sixth graders are the youngest. The experience of sixth graders almost resembles freshman year. I am hoping for a great year.

Yoga

As I am lying on my back smothered under my bedclothes, I am beyond exhausted. I don't feel as if I accomplished as much today. I was very anxious and just couldn't get focus. I was high-strung today, but I knew that I had to go to yoga tonight. I am so glad that I did. Even though I came home and took a shower, I could not muster up any energy to clean up. Yet, mentally I am recharged and feel so much better I am not as stressed. Yoga is my new outlet. It fulfills my life and blesses my body and soul.

Last Day

I cannot believe today is the last day of my summer vacation. Work begins tomorrow. Not sure that I am excited. Maybe you could describe it as being anxious to start. I wonder how many children with special needs will be assigned to me. Last year, one of my students committed suicide. So, this year will be an interesting year because his little brother will be at our school. He looks just like my student. Perhaps the reality of not being able to come and go as I want is no longer available! I am wondering what new changes have occurred. I do know that we have a new principal. He was one of the assistants from last year. I don't know just hoping that this year is better than last year.

Achievement

Today, I feel like I really achieved something. I printed out a photograph I took and put it in a frame. It looks so professional. I painted over the part of the breakfast bar that Jacob decided to color a gray marker on. I bought a folding table for our laundry room. I have washed loads and loads of clothing all day. I am starting to see the nice linoleum floor. I even found time to go to the gym and work out. I cooked dinner. I sent emails. I schedule important meetings. I followed up. I read a book. I can see my kitchen counter. I washed Jasmine's hair. I went to JSU to turn in my graduation clearance. I threw more than 27 pieces of paper away. I am exhausted. Yet, it feels really great to think of all I have accomplished today. Hopefully, I can repeat the same thing tomorrow.

Unconditional Love

What would the world be like if everyone loved each other genuinely in an unconditional manner like God's love? Would we live harmoniously and bathe ourselves in forgiveness and faithfulness? Would we just shake it off when someone inflicts excruciating pain on our very souls? Would we all accept the flaws and the untruths often exposed at a vulnerable and trying time?

Vicious Cycle

Have you ever been just so sick and tired that you were sick and tired of bring sick and tired? I am realizing that you can stop being sick and tired by ending the vicious cycle. I now know it's time for me to stop this cycle of repeat offenses by taking the necessary steps to remove me from such an environment. People treat you only the way you allow them to. Sometimes, your comfort zone interferes with what you know is necessary. However, it's important to understand that remaining in an unhealthy comfort zone hurts you more than an unfamiliar comfort zone. Perhaps you have to reach a point that you just have to wake up and realize that things change. Sometimes it takes a wake-up call to understand that the enjoyment of your life rears with you and God. The situation won't get better if you allow and accept it. You have to take the stance and make a change. Time is precious and you can't let it be. It's time for me to think ahead and visualize what's in the future. Mistreatment bad disrespect dwindles down your body as a deadly drugged. Their potency infuses in your spirit and essence. Feeling a sense of validation by what others think and feel about you overshadows your own perception of yourself. Putting your faith in humankind without thinking about disappointment leans a hand to faulty understanding and often terribly hurt feelings. I am determined that I can do better, and I will do better. By ending this vicious cycle now, I will get what I want now. I will get what I know I deserve.

Disappointment

Sometimes how you expect someone to treat you and talk to you often don't happen. What do you do when not only your expecations are not met? What do you do if you feel like you have been treated unfairly? Do you speak out or do you wallow in your disappointment and dismay? Do you retailiate or stand in silence? Do you cry the tears swollen in your eyes or force them back with all your strength?

Braves vs. Stars

Tonight we went to Trustmark Park to watch the Mississippi Braves play against the Stars. Even though Jeremiah and I stood in line at the concession stand for over thirty minutes, we had a wonderful time. Jasmine and Jacob enjoyed the clapping and shouting. They really had fun watching the players and seeing the baseballs fly. It was a really great deal. Admission into the ballpark was free if you donated items for the Salvation Army. We also received wonderful souvenirs and a free hot dog and drink for the whole family. If you haven't been to a Braves game, you are truly missing out. I understand why Sandi loves it so! People were everywhere. Children were playing. It was so nice to see families together. Here are a few pictures I took and video of the game. My iPhone 3GS is so awesome!

Thinking

As I smell the french fries, sizzling in the hot grease, my mind drifts off to thinking. I am really excited about Trustmark Park today. Not sure why. We have been before when Kwandis was giving tickets by Comcast. Jeremiah had a field day there too! It was pretty cool. I hope it cools down though. It is so hot today!

Now What?

No more writing and reading about Edgar Allan Poe. No more revising,
editing, and stressing. So, what's next. Not too sure about what I
want to accomplish next. I do have a list of things I would like to
do. Perhaps, I will feel an incredible sensation. Then, will I know?
