Extreme Couponing

I just finished my trip from shopping for the first time with my coupons! I must say I am tired, but extremely excited. After having a coupon swap session and cutting out session with my friend, "S. B.," I went to get a Madison County Herald. The Madison County Herald is a free newspaper, which has both the Red Plum insert and the SmartSource insert (if you are lucky maybe 2 or 3 in the same paper). After cutting out some and filing away the other inserts (idea thanks to S.B.), I began the process of comparing weekly ads, comparing coupons, and making a list. In the end, I had a list and coupons for CVS, Walgreens, Kroger, and Rite Aid. Then I found a three prong folder with pockets. I placed inside sheet protectors. The coupons were paper to each shopping list (which was for a specific store). On each list, I wrote than a brief description of item, sale price, and amount of coupon. I file my coupons in a small photo album, so it's convenient for me to have them in case I see something on sale that I have a coupon for. Also, I put a SmartSource and Redplum extra insert in the back pockets, and a pantry list, along with next week's menu in the front pocket. My first stop was RiteAid. I spent 7.53 on Kelloggs Cereal and Pringles. I saved $7.88. Next stop was Walgreens. This trip was more complicated. Some of the items I had written down included a coupon from the paper. We had to find a sales paper and show the coupons. Next time, I will clip out the coupons in the paper. Also, I learned to paper clip my list and coupons to the current sales paper. I had to get a raincheck (my first one) on the sugar. That felt so powerful. :) (Yes, pretty lame, but oh well!) I spent $25.20. I saved $17.67, plus I received $2 off my next purchase!! Next stop was Kroger. In addition to the coupons, I had digital coupons on my Kroger card. Yes, I was able to get my Magnum Ice Cream... (can't wait for the kids to go to sleep for me to devour all three! LOL! Yes, I will be at the gym in the morning!! I spent $46.82. I saved a total of $12.43. My last stop was CVS. I saved $20.38 plus I received a $4.00 coupon off my next purchase. I spent only $17.87. What a shopping trip! Saving that much money felt so empowering. YAY!!! I am excited about this saving money journey. Total saved, including coupons, came to a total of $64.36. Couponing is my new hobby.

Our garden was flooding with water. I called my mom to see what could be done. She explained how I could make irrigation trenches. As soon as I used the hoe to dig the trenches, it worked immediately. I am excited about growing a garden now. On August 22, 2007 Jacob was born. He will soon turn three. I am so blessed to have him. At six months or so he was diagnosed with septic elbow. I felt true fear. I thought I might lose him. His arm works perfectly fine. It turns out he is left-handed (the arm affected) and right-handed. I am so blessed that he is talking and functioning as a normal child. You never know how blessed you are until your faith is tried. I love this little man!

Our garden is making much progress. The tomatoes are growing. The pimento pepper has fresh blows on it. The squash and cucumbers are growing and spreading. I am enjoying the beginning of a new lifestyle. When I visit my parents, I plan on bringing back some herbs from my parents garden. I am also going to start with plants. Being at home has made me realize that it is okay not to go somewhere everyday. There is plenty that you can do at home.

We have two dogs. Both were given to us as gifts. We received the beagle from my brother and the German Shepard/chow mix for the children's uncle. They have discovered a new found love for the dogs and so have I. The beginning of June I made a garden. After making a garden, I noticed how sad and pitiful the dogs looked being in their pen. So, I went to Petsmart and bought materials to allow them to be staked out and room. I also bought them leases to walk the dogs. The children now walk the dogs daily. The dogs don't whine as much as enjoy their lives better. Pets are wonderful creatures. I have even discovered a new found interest in them. I am not grossed out as they lick my leg or brush pass me.

Tonight is my first time cooking tilapia. I am going to bake it. Jasmine helped me season it. I gave her the salt shaker. She shook out some and said, "Mama this ice!". O_O Next we put lemon pepper on it. Lastly, we put dill weed on it. Jasmine asked me why were we putting grass on the fish. My children never cease to entertain me.

Good Times With Grandparents

My children spent a week with my parents. They had a ball. Was it because my parents own a farm or was it because they spent time with my parents, sisters, nieces, and nephew. This picture is of my parents farm truck. The children and I followed my parents to Pontotoc, MS for farm supplies. After we picked them up, we had a picnic on back of the farm truck at the local Wal-Mart. My children were tickled pink. Fried chicken, Kool-aid bursts, and Popsicles were a fun delight, but not as fun as "sitting on Granddaddy's truck!"

I'm sitting outside on my computer. Watching the children ride on their bikes, I am reminded of two summers ago doing the same thing. However, I was in a different situation. I was a stay-at-home mother miserable and ready to go back to work. It's funny how certain activities trigger certain thoughts. I am amazed at how life repeats itself when we are least likely to notice.

It so amazing how fast these children grow up before your eyes. Jasmine is four, Jacob will be three in August, and Jeremiah is 8. All of them can talk. All of them are potty trained. All of them are in school. I am so blessed. I remember when Jasmine had a fever virus. My world was turned upside down. I remember when Jacob had septic elbow. I was afraid I would lose him. I remember when Jeremiah was born prematurely. I felt as if he would never be able to live a normal life.

Looking at them now. I know that God is definitely watching over my children.

Millsaps Summer Camps

A Summer Guitar Workshop for beginners starts Monday, June 14. For ages 13-17, the camp meets 10-11:30 a.m. and costs $85. Millsaps music professor Jimmy Turner is the instructor. This camp has made but there is still room for several more in the class.

Millsaps Summer Enrichment camps will offer “Creative Writing” for students in grades 9-12 on MWF June 21-July 2, 10 a.m.-noon. The cost is $135. Dr. Richard Boada of the Millsaps English faculty will be the instructor.

Later camps include Chamber Music Day Camp, Character Animation Workshop, Discovering the Young Artist, Science Fair 101, Be A Nature Detective, Birding Camp, and Cheer Dance Basics.

Jasmine's Personality

Here is a picture of Jasmine. She is so proud that she can do a split. Her personality is so bubbly and lively. She reminds me of me so much. I often find myself referring to her as mini-me. She is so outgoing and friendly. She definitely is interested in ballet and drama. I am hoping that she will be able to begin dancing in the fall. I believe that she truly has a gift. I hope to expose her to the opportunity to exploit her gift.

Been Awhile

It's been awhile since I published anything going on with the children and I. Let's see what has changed. Well Jasmine is 4, Jacob will be 3, and Jeremiah is 8. We planted a little garden yesterday. We planted tomatoes, cucumbers, pimento peppers, bell peppers, squash, and okra. I even dealt with the dogs yesterday and today. I had an interview for a part-time job. I hope I get it. Don't feel like I accomplished much today. I hope tomorrow is definitely more fulfilling for me. I hope to catch up and post random pictures of the lives of my children and I. We are so blessed.

Lamentations 3:21-26

From the pit of despair to the pennacle of hope - title

God's character is inflexible . He does not change. He cannot fail. He
cannot falter. He will not forget. He is always faithful. His power
and pre-emminence remains. Bibical background: children of Israel was
n a hopeless state. Had several difficulties over a period of 18
months. A foreign army dessimated the city. It was truly difficult and
tough. When they destroyed Solomon's temple, it was as I the people
felt God had abandoned his people. Often we r confronted with many
difficulties dangers and detours. Find ourselves in the valley than on
top of the moutain. Must believe that god is with us in other to avoid
feeling hopeless. Sometimes in life what God promises us doesn't
conincide with what actually happens. Jeremiah reminds us to remember
god has already done. We must resolve some things.

55% of people who make new year resolutions keep them on the first
month.
40% of people keep them 6 months
Only 19% keep it after one year

I resolve to remain faithful to God inspite of the circumstances. In
spite of what is going on in my life I will remain faithful.

People become discourages when God does not come when we think he
should come. Remain faithful. You must hang on in here regardless of
how dark things maybe. God is too righteous to forget about me. The
fact that you are alive "clothe in your right mind" proves that God
mercy was in ur house. Don't forget to thank God for his mercies. His
mercies are full and fresh each morning. Hang on in there and stay
with God. Weeping endureth for a night. Joy comes in the morning. Wait
on the Lord patiently. Remember your agenda is not Gods agenda. He
knows what he is doing. He will show up on your behalf. Give God glory
for what he already has done and what he will do. The wind may blow
storm will rave. Hang on to God's grace. Don't turn ur back on God.
God is alright. Bless God's name. I am going to requisition his favor.
Pray praise and keep on performing. When things are bad u should run
to church. Praise him in spite of and on credit. Things r bad where I
am. I will praise him where I am. Dark now but hang on in there.
